Acknowledgments

This web-site presentation includes all of Murray Allen’s known works, some sold, some missing, and many recovered from his last studio. Recovery of surviving works has been done by his sons, Stephan and Benjamin. They are held in my care for selection of works, and construction of this site, assisted by Terry Mills, web builder in Vancouver. Many photos shown here have been provided by the family; sister Jean, myself (brother), nieces Derry, Dawn, Laura, and Naomi, and nephews Don and Tom. Support has been given by three cousins of the Bateman and Grainger families of Alberta. A few photos of assemblage, and a related interview, have been provided by Steven Teeuwsen of Edmonton.
Murray left no instructions on display of his work, and had no part in selecting the items presented. The family has been a selection jury, providing photos of works from our own collections. I also accepted the task of selecting paintings and assemblages among the unsold works in Murray’s artistic estate. In doing so I claim no experience in evaluation, criticism, or sale of art. I have selected works that appeal to me, and that appear to have been executed with confidence. I hope that my respect for his work is confirmed in the world of art, and that his story of independence, tenacity, and humour will add to that confirmation.
Thoughts of fellow artists, close friends, and family members are invited on Murray’s life and/or work, and will be printed on this site if requested. If anyone has a piece of work not found on the site, we will be pleased to receive a photograph (5×7”) and will add it to the display. Please indicate date, signature and seal if found on the front or back of any item, and show dimensions in inches.
My first intention is to maintain this web-site as a travelling gallery in order to exhibit Murray’s work and tell his story. Available works are for sale, which will be continued if worthwhile and within my own limits of time and energy, or if taken on by a younger family member. All paintings and assemblages are available unless identified by a red circle. Prices will be quoted, and non-negotiable. By his will, Murray asked that proceeds go to his grandchildren. The Contact page of this site will put prospective buyers in touch.
With love and respect for the memories of Murray and his wife, Anne-Marie, and best wishes to their sons Stephan and Benjamin and their families.
